On 9th April took place the day convened on the occasion of  the Global Day of Internet of Things, originally convened by  Council Thinktank, organized by the intelligent environments area of Deustotech and Techabout , and also with the colaboration of  BEAZ and  Parque Tecnológico de Bizkaia.

We have the fortune to have 15 participants from diverse areas, such as technology, architecture and art,  journalism, economy, innovation and design; we attended two presentations: one by Asier Azaceta (@AsierAzaceta)  Techabout CTO, and the other one by Diego Soroa (@soroa) of Cuantics Creatives Lab.

In the first presentation,  Asier Azaceta introduced several definitions about the Internet of  Things, possible applications, and some of them are already in the market. He also explained some of the challenges and problems that we have to face with the implementation and devolpment of this technology. We also saw some videos about the prototypes, projects and products using the Internet of Things for different and many kind of applications. This presentation, and the videos and images related to it, you can find them in our Facebook and LinkedIn groups (both in Spanish).

In the second presentation, Diego Soroa explained some of the projects and works realted to architecture and art, that showed us a new dimension about technology application in spaces, and how this allows the people change their relationships with their houses, landscapes or even their city.

These presentations, images and videos, stimulated us to discuss about several aspects about de future technology development and its feasibility and implications. These are some of the things that we discuss:

On how the Internet of  Things, on the one hand, can help us to manage our digital personalities, but on the other, how it can be more complicate because its going to stablished new realtionships between the virtual world and the real world.

About the need and the possibilties to personalize the interaction and the user expirience with these devices. Not only about the different conditions between them, but also about the changing conditions in our time. Sometimes depending on where are we (situation or environment), and sometimes depending on our mood for example.

On the dehumanization that technology introduces in our lives and social relationships, and from that questioning, think about how to use technology to get us out into the street and interact face to face with others. Or how to make technology more human.

About the possibility of providing two-way communication between the users,  the services (often publics) and the managers of these services, to transmit them not only data but also emotions that the users felt in an specific moment about the quality of the service. (Would the public transportation improve if there is an effective measure in real time on our satisfaction to it? and maybe that would reduce the use of private trasnportation?)

On privacy, not only as problems to solve, but also as an excuse to hinder the adoption and diffusion of technology. We have a lot of complains and we concerned about the privacy on some occasions, but how easily publish all our lives in others. Is not it all a problem of cost-benefit?

Finally, what might be the hidden implications of the use of technology? Such as the creation of new ghettos from the union of like-minded people on social networks and communities.

All these new ideas are going to be the basis for further meetings and discussions. And we are going to miss not to have a couple of hours to reach some other conclusions. But the conclusion that we were able to reach is the undenaible interest aroused  by the application of  Internet of  Thing into the everyday life. There is a whole world to discover and evolve. From here we encourage you to continue forming a multidisciplinary community about these technologies.
